Christmas in July (2009)

Christmas in July for voice with piano

This is a standard pop song, in the vein of all the glorious holiday tunes I'm so fond of. Obviously the phrase "Christmas in July" has been floating around for decades, but instead of using it to prompt a store sales event, I instead wrote it from the point of view of someone so enraptured by the holiday season he has mistaken visions of several clear-cut signs of summer. He sees a swimmig pool as a "liquid skating rink," Independence Day fireworks remind him of twinkling tree lights, and when fans at the local ballpark sing Take Me Out To The Ballgame he hears Jingle Bells instead. By the last "A" verse it finally IS December and, from the singer's point of view, all's right with the world.
